Nannies

A nanny provides comprehensive daytime care in the child's own home. Nannies are expected to participate in the social, emotional, and intellectual development of the child, and will work with them on such areas as potty training, social manners, homework and more.

Most families request that a nanny make a minimum commitment of six months to the job. This is to make sure that the children have continuity in their childcare. While the focus is on the child, light domestic duties may be negotiated and may be include in the nanny's duties as long as they are clearly set out in writing prior to commencement of the placement.

Babysitters

A babysitter supervises children during the day or evening on a short term basis. They are engaged to provide adult supervision in the child's home environment in the absence of parents. They are not expected to undertake additional duties or take the children off the premises without parental consent.

Solecharge staff

A solecharge carer is a nanny who lives in and takes responsibility for children in the absence of their parents i.e. whilst the parents are away on holiday or due to business travel. A solecharge carer acts as a proxy parent in this situation and maintains the day to day routine of the children.
